The ingredients
7 to 12 fresh calendula flowers
250 ml of organic sweet almond oil
A glass jar
A cheesecloth
An elastic
A place in the sun to let the jar rest for 21 days.
How to make your oil
Pick your calendula flowers when the sun is at its highest, as this is when this flower fully opens itself. While doing so, connect to the plant and ask for permission to take some of its flower, try to take not more than 30% of the flowers of one plant, so you share its benefits with the full ecosystem.
Lay out the flower on a trail in the shadow for a small moment to give a chance to any insects to find another place to go.
Boil some water and immerse your jar in it for a few seconds. Let it dry well.
Put with love, intention and reverence the flowers into it, then pour the oil.
Close with a cheesecloth and tie it up with an elastic so nothing can come in, but the “water” of the flower can go out.
Let it rest in a sunny place (behind a window, for instance) for 21 days, letting it charge with the power of the sun.
Filter it and pour it into a well-cleaned jar, close it and keep it in a dry, shadowy place.
I am almost at the filtering part of the process. The oil looks so pure, so gold, like a nectar for the heart. I feel that by making this macerate with the sun, the sun is also giving its magic to it and that I will not only apply calendula oil, which is already a magic plant, but also pure sun rays. The full process is an invitation to slowing down, to interconnection, to love.
This recipe is inspired by the book: ALCHIMIE VEGETALE · Initiation à la Sagesse des Plantes, préparations & rituels from my dear teacher and friend, Séverine Perron. She said about it: “ From the easing of our suffering, Love is born”.
